First off, apologies for the lack of a blog from myself last week, the reasons for which I will explain in due course. However I understand that a lack of blog roll has been an issue for quite some time now.
As we are all too well aware, we currently find ourselves in a situation unlike many of us have ever seen in our lifetime, and with any luck one which we won't experience again any time soon.
Yes the COVID-19 outbreak has essentially stopped the world and sadly that has meant a delay in the start of the speedway season.
However as I am all too well aware, this sort of pails into insignificance in the grand scheme of thing, and the main thing is to stay safe and make sure the vulnerable amongst us are kept safe too.
Now I don't want to bore anyone with a post full of the stuff that we are all being told on a daily basis anyway, but by the same toke, there isn't anything happening in the speedway world either, so what will I rant about?
Well, first off, a little story...as I mentioned earlier I didn't get a blog on here last week, and that annoys me, but when I stop and think, I'm genuinely unsure what I would have written about. However I found myself busy with work, until Thursday when cold and flu like symptoms started kicking my ass!
Don't worry folks, it wasn't COVID-19, it was simply a dose of the man flu, which around half of you will realise the severity. That wiped me out for a couple of days and the week was done, and no blog was posted.
My apologies for that, but as usual my esteemed colleagues on here knocked it out the park and I very much doubt that I was missed!
That is pretty much it, it's not exciting, nor is it glamorous but that's the situation we find ourselves in!
For those of you like me, who are missing your speedway fix, many of the clubs on social media have been sharing links to full meetings from seasons gone by and of course YouTube has a plethora of speedway content on it.
That is of course if you are able to pull yourself away from cats playing the ukulele or penguins sliding on their belly, which is a tough old ask I know!
For the time being at least, it looks as though our speedway fix is going to have to come on a computer screen, but the hope can only be that absence will make the heart grow fonder. The hope remains that once the ban on social gatherings and sporting events is lifted, that people flock to support sports like speedway.
Some lass singing about a taxi once said that "you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" and she was right. So all the more reason to support your club when you can and when the time is right once again.
For me, speedway has always been my escape from the mundane, my escape from real life almost and I know I'm not alone in that.
But as a result of all this chaos and madness going on in the world just now, there doesn't look to be an escape and if you know someone who might be alone or in need of help, give them a call or drop them a message.
The Speedway family looks after it's own, even when there is no speedway to speak of, at least for the time being!
Stay safe everyone!
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me firstname.lastname@example.org or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time...and there will be a next time.
